Yeah, this has been my experience with my Boomer parents and Gen X people I grew up with. I'm in the hazy area between, but Millennial sums up my experience pretty well. The Internet became widely available for the first time, my debt was a chain around my neck for decades and I am child free, ride a bike and pretty much do what a lot of what millennial are described as doing.

Summary: The unicorn had never left her wood before, until she overhears a pair of hunters talking. Suddenly, she cannot find peace, because the questions always plague her. What happened to the other unicorns? Why did the Black Lion hunt them? So she leaves. Along the way she discovers allies, uncovers mysteries, and finds her way towards understanding mortals and mortality, and the sweet pain of regret.

Looks like sheith fans have brought up their own Indoctrination Theory.

Y’know, I enjoyed some of the vids and speculation that came out of Mass Effect 3 when everyone kept wondering why the ending was so terrible. People picked and pulled apart every single detail, broke open the coding, searched for every deleted scene they could find.

Indoctrination Theory was a way for the fans to feel like they could control what had happened when something they had invested so heavily in turned against them. It was pure rubbish, of course. There WAS no secret. It would have been suicide for the company to not include the actual ending.

It was one man’s ego that ruined it. And sheith fans-

It wasn’t exec interference that created that ending. Yes, they probably had some pressure to do something for queer rep-

But they had fucked THAT up seasons ago.

The writing is bad. LM and JDS were tone-deaf at best, arrogantly racist bigots without understanding what they were doing at a minimum, and actively sabotaging fandom at worst.

But say this with me: The. Story. Was. Bad. While the epilogue was tacked on and stupid, it didn’t make things worse. The EPs just had no idea what they were doing the whole time.

So stop trying to free something that doesn’t exist.

Focusing on the epilogue is misdirection. Call out how the narrative abused Allura. Call out how Shiro was shoved to the side. Call out how obvious it was that Ezor’s inclusion was a last minute addition. Call out how they failed to develop ANY characters past season 2. Call out how they decided to throw all the toys on Keith without making him earn them and now has zero personality… like everyone else. Call out how Pidge was never forced to actually lose anything or deal with the consequences of her actions. Call out the fatphobia and godawful humor around Hunk.

The problems in VLD started long, long ago. But instead of wanting to see them, because sheith fans DIDN’T want to get lumped in with antis, they silenced dissent and routinely ignored what was going on in front of them.

Here’s the thing: It’s not other fans who are ruining fandom for you. It was the show runners themselves. Refusing to hold them accountable for the bad management and decisions just proves how shipping focused we really are. We can still love a ship and acknowledge the characters faults. We can still talk about how much we love something and realize it ain’t perfect.

VLD is a beautiful show. The voice acting is very good, the art direction and design is lovely. There are a lot of reasons we enjoyed it.

The story is not one of them.

A “real ending” doesn’t exist. And spoilers: Santa isn’t real either. Let it go.

Write fic. Make art. Don’t give up on the ships you love or the communities you have made. But just… let that shit go.

Summary: Extra smut that did not make it into Breeder and has a dubious relationship with the rest of the story. Derek becomes concerned for Thane after it becomes obvious the drell is neglecting himself after he has successfully saved Kolyat and knows he is likely to die during the suicide mission. Derek can't stand the idea of anyone on his ship thinking they are alone.

(  He would not eat, he would not sleep, would not bathe, but instead Derek would walk in on him sitting there. )
