I admit to being less than patriotic.
This is because while the United States might be great for its WASP citizens, its not great for those who are of a different ethic or racial background.
I also think the US has a horrific foreign policy.
Of course, this is because I am an anthropology student.
I also fear being censored. Its going to happen- 9-11, while horrible, not denying that- is just the excuse the powerful need to make people stop talking...
And I just lost at mah jong again... Goody...
When I was little, I loved going to parades, because people threw candy. Then I had been in my local one a few times, with my softball team, when my dad ran for the school board... It was for the candy.
Then I realized if it wasn't insanely hot, it was raining. It was crowded. It was loud and smelly... I just didn't like going.
I haven't been in at least three years...
Oi, well... I love the concept behind this country. I love the idea of equality for all. Its not my religion however- to be able to grow, we need to be able to question and change. I need to remember that myself, or we are no better than the dictators we seek to overthrow.
Happy 4th.
